Next PhotoAlteration and Addition to Island Retreat
The palettes of the new exterior finishes are muted, natural materials that require little or no maintenance as well as the bronze colored metal roofing, metal clad windows and doors. Fir logs with cedar trim & sidewall shakes are treated with bleaching oil stain to offer long-term protection with a muted appearance. The Adirondack-like deck guardrails are crafted of peeled logs & driftwood gathered from local beaches.

Next PhotoThe original late 1970’s kitchen was a dated blend of the standard almond plastic laminate and oak finishes with cool fluorescent lighting. The new kitchen explodes with the warmth and texture of several rich wood species, honed black granite, stainless steel and etched, obscure glass. Hand-peeled, Madrona logs with stainless steel feet adorn the island.

Custom Floating Home
Most of the existing, eighty year old house boat was torn down to the log foundation. Clapboard siding, enameled trim, Dutch doors and cedar decking were used to give the exterior a traditional appearance. A warm, wood finished interior was achieved by the use of fir posts and beams, pine plank flooring and an exposed ceiling of spruce car decking. The classically styled new home emerged through challenging design and construction aspects.
